Our libraries serve the city of Southend offering free access to a wide variety of resources and a safe, welcoming space for all. You can visit to browse and borrow stock; connect with others using our People’s Network computers or by attending any one of our groups including ‘Knit and Natter’ groups, Book Groups and Games Clubs; or simply visit to relax in a warm, non-judgemental space. Membership is free, providing lifelong access to millions of books, eResources and a diverse Online Reference Library.

You can research your family history by using ‘Find My Past’ and our large local history collection
including historical Electoral Registers, Parish Records and Street Directories. We also have a large
local newspaper archive on Microfilm and a Southend Picture Archive.Tablet Taster Sessions offer the opportunity for one-to-one guidance in using your IT devices; Storyrhymes is a fun celebration of songs, rhymes, instruments and stories for the under 5’s; while our ever-changing programme of events include local author talks, Manga drawing classes and Film
